I’ve always been drawn to the more melancholic side of music and for me listening to Pre-Millenium Tension by Tricky was one of those albums which just rearranged my brain as to what was possible to be created with music. At the start of 2011, a adolescent childhood dream was well and truly fulfilled when I was invited by Tricky to manage him as part of the amazing team at Crown Music. This was the song that originally transfixed me…

I used to run a female showcase night called ‘Future Divas’ as I have a big soft spot for a female performer. Having apparently ‘spammed’ her dad one artist mailed me back to just send me some music; it was a very special woman by the name of Maya Jane Coles. At that time at 22 an already super talented producer who had been honing her craft for many years and with some rather impressive accomplishments that she had already garnered off her own back.

She never played at Future Divas as I disbanded the night to spend more time looking after her! Funny how life works out, but I think it was one of my best ever decisions…

People often ask me why I turn down a lot of things that would make me a quick buck but to be honest I genuinely never went into music for the money or the lifestyle – I was driven by one thing; a profound love of amazing music which my mum first showed me listening to artists such as Kate Bush, Gary Numan and Chopin as a child – people who just interpreted and exacted on their world in way that no other did and people tried to imitate after.

One of my proudest finds has been Engine-Earz Experiment – this was the first thing I had heard or seen of the band and actually their first ever live performance! So when people ask me to manage them this is where the bar is set for me and it’s admittedly really rather high…

When I fell out of love with music… this is what brought it back

There was a brief moment due to the amount of crap and dispassionate people that frequent this industry that I fell out of love with music for a bit and when Nadine came in to play me this as a demo – every hair was on end and it totally rekindled my passion. I agreed to manage her after hearing one song once, which is the first time I have ever done that but if you watch the video you will see why it was such a no brainer…
